G is for Gastronomy

The gastronomy in Mexico is a culture all in itself. Rich in ingrediants and variety. A lot of people come to Mexico with a basic knowledge or what they thing Mexican food is all about however once they are here they start to realize that places such as Taco Bell really aren’t Mexican.

Tacos are of course by the far the most famous and most popular option throughout the country however each individual state offers plates that are typical of that region so if you are planning on travelling through the country be sure to try a traditional dish from each place you visit.

In the state of Quintana Roo, where I live, one of the most famous and most popular dishes with locals and tourists alike is Cochinita Pibil which is pork traditionally cooked in banana leaves and seasoned with annatto paste, bitter orange, garlic, cinnamon and more, in a spicy sauce.

Seafood is also highly popular as Quintana Roo is located right on the coastline. One of my favourite dishes is Ceviche which is a cold dish made up on tomato, onion, cilantro and lime juice combined with the seafood of your choice. Now imagine sitting on the beach in the sun, with a cold beer and a plate of ceviche….. there really is nothing better…
